Urbanetz Junior,Jair; Tonin,Fabianna Stumpf; Mariano,Juliana D’Angela; Tiepolo,Gerson Máximo.
ABSTRACT The Federal University of Technology - Paraná (UTFPR), Campus Curitiba, has a Grid-Connected Photovoltaic System (GCPVS) of 2.1 kWp in the Green Office (GO), which has been in operation since December 2011, and until September 2017 generated little more than 13.64 MWh and a GCPVS of 10.2 kWp, in operation since February 2016. The photovoltaic panel of the 2.1 kWp system was set up following the inclination of the roof of the building, which does not give its maximum performance. On the other hand, the panel of the 10.2 kWp system in Neoville was installed in optimum conditions, that is, oriented to the north and with slope equal to the latitude of Curitiba and, up tol September 2017 generated more than 20.65 MWh. This paper presents the monitoring...

Analytical quality in environmental studies: uncertainty evaluation of chemical concentrations determined by INAA BABT
França,Elvis Joacir de; Fernandes,Elisabete A. De Nadai; Bacchi,Márcio Arruda; Saiki,Mitiko.
Instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) is a measurement technique of high metrological level for the determination of chemical elements. In the context of BIOTA/FAPESP Program, leaves of trees have been evaluated by INAA for biomonitoring purposes of the Atlantic Forest. To assure the comparability of results in environmental studies, a leaf sample of Marlierea tomentosa (Myrtaceae family) showing the lowest concentrations of chemical elements was selected for the evaluation of analytical quality of the determination under unfavorable conditions. Nevertheless, the homogeneity of chemical concentrations of sample at the 95% of confidence level has been achieved and INAA has presented repeatability of 2% for the determination of Br, Co, Cs, Fe, K,...

Anatomical aspects of IBA-treated microcuttings of Gomphrena macrocephala St.-Hil BABT
Moreira,Míriam F.; Appezzato-da-Glória,Beatriz; Zaidan,Lilian B.P..
Gomphrena macrocephala St.-Hil. (Amaranthaceae) is a perennial herb from the cerrado with medicinal properties and ornamental interest. Plants can be micropropagated through nodal segments, but acclimatization is difficult. The aim of this study was to establish a relationship between anatomical aspects of the roots and the acclimatization process. When cultures were supplemented with IBA, callus and thick and frangible roots appeared at the base of the microcuttings. A fragile vascular connection between roots and shoots was observed. Abnormal adventitious roots showing alteration in the vascular cylinder and hypertrophy of the cortical cells were also noted. These roots interfere in the transfer to extra vitrum conditions. When no growth regulator was...

Anatomical confirmation of root parasitism in Brazilian Agalinis Raf. species (Scrophulariaceae) BABT
Elias,Samira Ismael; Souza,Vinicius Castro; Appezzato-da-Glória,Beatriz.
Agalinis Raf. consists approximately of 60 species, 14 of which occur in Brazil. The genus presents predominantly american distribution and the Brazilian species appears mainly in high areas of Minas Gerais. The North-American species are refered as hemiparasites, but there is no anatomical data about it in relation to the Brazilian species. Anatomical studies were conducted to verify whether the Agalinis species from Brazil were root parasites or not. The eight species analysed were presented haustoria which varied in shape, arrangement and size. They were generally elliptic or globose structures and mostly were tightly sticked to other roots in a solitary or clustered manner. The seriate sections of haustoria showed that there was a xylem connection...

Anatomy of the underground system in Vernonia grandiflora Less. and V. brevifolia Less. (Asteraceae) BABT
Hayashi,Adriana Hissae; Appezzato-da-Glória,Beatriz.
This work dealt with the anatomy of the underground system in Vernonia grandiflora Less. and V. brevifolia Less. (Vernonieae; Asteraceae), two perennial geophytes, to elucidate their ability to sprout in the Brazilian Cerrado conditions. V. grandiflora, a subshrubby species, possessed a thickened underground system constituted by a xylopodium and many tuberous roots. The xylopodium had stem and root structure and its buds were axillary or originated from the cortical parenchyma proliferation. The tuberous roots produced by this organ were adventitious and accumulated inulin-type fructans mainly in the cortical parenchyma. The thickened underground system of V. brevifolia, an herbaceous species, was a tuberous primary root whose buds originated from the...

Antagonism of Bacillus spp. against Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris BABT
Monteiro,Leila; Mariano,Rosa de Lima Ramos; Souto-Maior,Ana Maria.
The antagonism of eight Bacillus isolates was investigated against nine strains of Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris (causal agent of crucifers black rot) to assess the role of lipopeptides in this process. Antimicrobial and hemolytic (surfactant) activity tests were performed in vitro using agar diffusion methods. Antibiosis and hemolysis were positive for four Bacillus isolates against all X. campestris pv. campestris strains. The correlation observed between antimicrobial and hemolytic activities indicated that lipopeptides were involved in the antibiosis mechanism of the studied antagonists. Fermentation studies were carried out with the isolates that showed highest antimicrobial and hemolytic activities, to follow up growth and production of...

Anthracycline production by Streptomyces capoamus in batch fermentation BABT
Martins,Cristiane Soares; Souto-Maior,Ana Maria.
Anthracyclines have been intensely studied worldwide due to their importance as anticancer agents. In this work investigation was made on the production of ciclamycin, an antitumour complex of the anthracycline class, produced by Streptomyces capoamus. The fermentation medium consisted of glucose, as the main carbon source, and soymilk, as the sole nitrogen source. Experiments were performed in a 5-liter batch bioreactor under nitrogen and carbon-limiting conditions. Increasing antibiotic activity was observed both intra and extracellularly during growth under the two conditions used. Progressive loss of activity occurred in both cases after glucose was depleted from the medium. The results obtained showed that harvest of ciclamycin in a batch process...

Antibacterial activity of chitosan and the interpolyelectrolyte complexes of poly(acrylic acid)-chitosan BABT
Ortega-Ortiz,Hortensia; Gutiérrez-Rodríguez,Baltazar; Cadenas-Pliego,Gregorio; Jimenez,Luis Ibarra.
The antimicrobial activity of chitosan and water soluble interpolyelectrolyte complexes of poly(acrylic acid)-chitosan was studied. Chitosans of two different molecular weights were tested at different concentration for 0.5 to 5 g·L-1 as antimicrobial agents against P. aeruginosa and P. oleovorans. In both cases, the best microbial inhibition was obtained with the concentration of 5 g·L-1. However, the interpolyelectrolyte complexes of poly(acrylic acid)-chitosan with composition φ =2 produced higher antibacterial activity than the two chitosans at the concentration of 0.5 g·L-1. The NPEC2 complex was more effective than chitosans. This could be attributed to the number of moles of the amino groups of chitosan and the carboxylic acid groups of the...
